The 1889 opera house has seen performances by the likes of actor Lionel Barrymore and escape artist Harry Houdini, comedian Red Skelton and march king John Philip Sousa. It operated until 1945 when it became a city hall, and in the 1960s the building was abandoned. Lately it has been under renovation, and folks say it is haunted. Apparitions of shadow figures and a child’s handprints have been known to appear, and Victorian-garbed figures and orbs have shown up in photos. The place was featured on an episode of TV’s Ghost Hunters.
