Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Museum

The historic house museum is said to be haunted by the apparition of Mrs. Frankie Mudd. Witnesses also have heard unexplained voices, and during a Civil War reenactment, electric candles in the windows repeatedly turned on by themselves. A human-shaped bed impression routinely appears in a room where John Wilkes Booth stayed.

Went here for my first experience in ghost hunting- was not disappointed. We had permission so we went all through the house: as soon as we walked in, the rocking chair in the corner was rocking back and forth. Through a ghost box we listened to their voices, asking names and random questions to which they answered. Some were friendly, others not so much. The stairs caught my attention quickly, a guide and expert had told me someone in the Mudd family had fell down them. After this through the ghost box I talked to someone and they told me they died by suicide using a razor. Through later research I had discovered this man to be Dr. Mudd’s cousin. Upstairs in the bed where Booth laid, it is indeed true that the bedding sinks in occasionally, and is very cold to the touch. In the attic we stayed for a few minutes, which I suppose upset some spirits because within a minute old papers and boxes were thrown across the room. Finally in the backyard, through a ghost box we approached a ghost of a woman claiming her name to be Lilith, which was of course not true because of the satanic nature. We were right because she was then called Mary by another spirit. Also on another note, we saw shadow-like dogs running back and forth along the edge of the wood which was freaky. That was all- what a night.
