Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned here; staff have seen her on many occasions, usually between 10:15 and 11:00 at night. A knight is also said to be seen by John of Gaunt’s Gateway and harasses employees and visitors.

I was taking the dog for a walk in the field adjacent to my home (Linton Heath area)when my dog walked up to what looked like a tall, black hooded figure.I couldn’t distinguish any facial features.. My dog was startled when he went to sniff whom he and I thought was a person. His ears pricked up in surprise and he turned and ran away from it. I looked over to him, then looked back and it disappeared into thin air. I called out “hello?” as I was confused. If the dog didn’t see it I might thought it was my imagination. This happened at around dusk back in 2001.
