The Tutwiler Hotel

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  The Tutwiler Hotel

A mischievous ghost is said to turn on the lights and appliances. Although legend attributes the haunting to Colonel Tutwiler, it is highly unlikely, since the current location of the Tutwiler hotel is not the same as the one that originally bore his name and therefore, it is unlikely that he would be haunting a place that didn’t open as a Tutwiler hotel until the mid-80s. More likely, whoever is haunting the Tutwiler is a former inhabitant of the Ridgely apartments, the building that was renovated into the new Tutwiler in 1986.

    1. It is correct that this is not the Original Tutwiler Hotel, however the current hotel was built by Col. Tutwiler, using the same architect, and at the same time as the original Tutwiler Hotel. The reason that the current hotel is said to be haunted by Col. Tutwiler is that he lived in this building and maintained an office there as well. Col. Tutwiler lived in what is now suite 604.
