The Oak Tree

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  The Oak Tree

This location has been a popular teen hangout spot for decades. Locals know it as “The Oak Tree.” The tree covers some old stone ruins which are now heavily covered in graffiti and refuse. Mostly used for drinking and doing drugs, but several bodies have been discovered there as well going back to the 1980s. The most recent one was found under the tree in a shallow grave on July 15, 2011.

Some visitors claim to see apparitions and hear voices. There are rumors some people have gone there and have never returned.

  1. i grew up in the town of beaumont and as all teens in our little town have i did frequient the oak tree. the story as to the rubble and tree itself is one of a woman who had lived up top there in the house and local towns folk believed her to be a witch (and she may very may have been) and the got a lynch mob togather marched to her door step drug her out and hung her in the very tree, and story tells with her last breath she had softly and calmly cursed the land stating her soul will remain in the tree and the house will remain for all eternity and the familys for centrys to come will suffer dearly for what had been done to her. i believe that she is there. i have seen many things heard many sounds and felt unexplained things. my opinion yes it is verry haunted

  2. I just went last night to the oak tree. I didn’t stay very long, because it’s just a creepy place. There is a rope hanging from the tree that looks very old and there is tagging all over the wall of the house that used to be there. I have yet to see or hear anything, but you do feel like your not wanted. It is on mile high road in cherry valley, ca and it is almost towards the end of the street. It is the biggest oak tree on that road and you will see a dirt road next to the tree on the left and you walk down the dirt road and you will see another oak tree with the remains of the house. Be careful and wear shoes, because there is glass everywhere.

  3. You guys are all crazy. I grew up on the road the ghost tree is on and the rumors are all just stories. No wicked witch lived there. The structure was originally built as a stagecoach stop for the butterfield stagecoach. The property was abandoned in the late 1920s when cars replaced the need for stagecoaches. Look it up if you don’t believe me. I spent my entire child hood hiking the old stage road that runs past that place, climbing the tree and playing in the old stone ruins of the stagecoach stop. Yes it is creepy looking but no it’s not haunted. We are small town and I guess people have nothing better to do that make up silly stories.

    • So this place is actually on Singleton Rd it’s now a nature preserve take Singleton to the mail boxes turn towards the right fallow the dirt path until you get to the foundation of a celler the oak tree is huge I grew up here have seen shadow people heard voices growling and even heard a screamit is said to have been cursed by a demonic presents named zozo whatever that is im not sure just know if you come here you will see or hear something it’s in calimesa CA

      • Was up there this past Saturday from midnight till sunrise…it is active i can hear many spirits but none of them were of negative energy…cool place to chill and enjoy the scene if your not a scared @55

  4. We went and we heard both footsteps and screams in the distance, then every time we got close to the tree the wind would pick up and blow a lot of dirt in our faces, then my car wouldn’t turn on when we tried to leave. It said the battery was dead and turned on every light on the dashboard but everything else would work, the lights, the windows, and the radio.

  5. Some friends of mine decided to be ghost hunters bla bla bla and so we go up to the oak tree and nothing happens. But we check the right before the oak tree just to see. And I heard an owl and I was telling my friends that the owl usually comes around letting me know something is present (I’m Native American so it explains it haha) but as soon as I finished that sentence we all heard a little kid laugh that was like hehe and it came from top of that tree. We froze and bolted out like chickens and then the car wouldn’t start my friend couldn’t get his seat to go back until a minute of struggling the car started and we dipped out lol. I still go up to visit but I always sage myself once I get on the road cause ain’t nothing gon follow me back home lol

  6. Im pleased to read about it being a stagecoach stop. Ive spent days in the library and historical socity’s and could find nothing on it. I cant wait to look up butterfield and see what they say about.
It is very odd that the foundation is around a so large it takes 12 guys wrist to wrist to circle the tree. The tree grows over the foundation so at some point the tree was inside the building.
Then theres the other building foundation….its odd too. Its no more than 4 feet wide but its between 35 to 50 feet long. What kind of building would that have been or used for ?.
Also if you are parked facing Cabazon, on a cloudly-overcast-type night with the moon brightly shinning, when the clouds dont block the moonlight parts of the stones and mortar of the foundation glow. Its trippy yet very cool to see.
Ive never felt unwelcome there-day or night, but from having hiked all over the state and country, i KNOW wild (big type not household) cats love the way i smell or something because i ALWAYS draw them out, so i dont leave my jeep at all anymore when i go there, which is generally to show it to people whove not been there before.
And strangely enough ive personly found 3 of the human remains found there. They didnt bother me too much finding the adults as ive found 13 dead body’s so far in my life, but finding the toddler did make me lose my lunch & breakfast – if id found the baby 1st im not sure i would have found the mother.

    • Actually they can hurt you it depends if they are okay or not okay with humans.
U never know I’ve seen ghost since I was younger and haven’t u heard of possession?
Not only demons can but if that ghost really hates people it could do something bad to whoever comes to it

  7. My parents moved to Beaumont back in 2005 to escape our life in busy Los Angeles. At the time they moved, I was still in my junior year in high school. I met a group of kids that used to hang out up there as there is NOTHING to do in that God foresaken town. The road on our way up to the “Oak Tree,” was a dark and winding. My new “friends” did not tell me about the history/legends of this spot. When I got off the car, I felt very uneasy. It was dark, had a strange smell and various cold spots around the tree. Despite all that, I was desperate for new friends and followed them under the tree where we lit a fire and passed around cans of Coors Light. I remember having to pee and left my circle of friends to do my business. While walking back in the eerie quiet darkness, I got my hair pulled and felt a strange energy pass on my right side. I can still hear the foot steps running past me. I was terrified to say the least. I absolutely 100% believe there is a dark presence at the tree. Has anyone tried using a spirt board up there? Any having other information about that piece of land?

  9. I have been here a few times. It’s not just the old stone house, centuries old oak tree — the nature around the site has a strange feel to it. When there, you feel as if time is moving slower and the land feels old. This site is actually called “Witches Tree” by many. Please be aware that some people come here to do drugs and there are a lot of rattlesnakes the last few times I went during the summer months.

  10. I just recently went here with a group of friends do do a paranormal investigation & i can 100% say that this place is haunted! We went at 3am & what we experienced was so scary! We were in the middle of a Ouija Board session when out of nowhere we heard someone running towards us & we quickly looked in that direction to find no one in sight! As were were wrapping up the ouija board session our flashlights started to die & we seen what appeared to be a skinwalker near our truck, we ran towards it & it ran down the hill! It was ALL FILMED on my YouTube Channel: (David’s Universe)
