The Inn at Wise

You are here Home  > Hotels and Inns >  The Inn at Wise

The 1910 historic inn was in a dilapidated condition for many years prior to being refurbished, and now encapsulates its colourful past through delightful guest rooms, fine dining and a whole trove of ghost stories. Reports range from ghostly voices and screams from empty rooms to curtains opening and closing of their own accord. The second floor is rumoured to be particularly haunted, with temperature drops, shadowy apparitions and an eerie presence all being felt at the far end of the upper floor hallway.

  1. I lived at rhe Inn ,in the late 80’s. It was only a room with a full bathroom. At this time it was an old, large hotel. They rented rooms maybe just to pay the bills. I was young and wanted my independence. It was cheap. It was very cool, until I would be there alone. When I would get in the shower, a black blob ,(BEst I can describe it. When I would look, it was gone. Later at nights there would be banging on the doors, and outside window. My room was on the second floor. The Inn is haunted, but my nothing friendly. Good luck.

    • hey ron! im living in wise for the summer and would love to hear more about your experiences if youre willing to share! if not, I dont blame you at all! sometimes it is left to leave the past where it belongs

    • I have experienced several unexplained events. Butt prints on the bed, chairs rolling, drawers opening, but most of all, the black shadows, always present black shadows

My dad and I stayed 2 nights at The Inn. On the second day we had a different room then the first night. Twice the dresser drawer (the TV was on top of this dresser) opened on its own. One of those times while I was sitting right there. We checked to see if the drawer was loose or off balance but it was not. The Inn was a beautiful place

  2. Haunted. Definitely hhaunted.Butt prints on freshly made beds, chairs that move and drawers that open by themselves. Shadows too….always the shadows

  3. Lived in Wise all my life, the inn has burnt twice and I helped remodel both times. I was there all day every day for months. I was back in them rooms by my self all the time….never heard or seen anything.

But back in the late 70’s early 80’s they had a great breakfast!

  4. I was born and raised in Wise Va. I worked at the Wise Inn as maintenance man in the early 80s . Late every Saturday afternoon I would go through to spray for bugs , every time I came up the back stairway I always felt like I was being followed. The steps behind me would creak like someone else was following me, at first I thought it was a renter coming up to their room. I stop to move out of the way but nobody was there, I guess in hopes to experience something paranormal intrigued me to be able to see something nothing ever showed its self. Even walking through the rooms spraying I still felt like I was being followed, but still never saw anything.
