  1. I stayed at the chancery twice with my friend Mother Deb Jennings while she was pastor of St. Matthew’s (around 2008). During my first visit, I heard what sounded like children playing all throughout the house during the daylight hours, then running up and down the upstairs hallway while I was trying to sleep. I finally decided to say something to Deb the third day I was there. She hadn’t mentioned anything to me beforehand, and I had no idea others thought the place was haunted. She told me about a spirit she believed resided in the closet of the guest bedroom in which I was staying! Apparently, he/it had opened the closet door and said to her mom, “Get out!” An open-minded individual with a healthy bit of skepticism myself, I decided to challenge this ghost (or whatever) by sleeping with the closet door open. I’m not sure why I did that because the stench in the closet was indescribably fetid and persisted no matter what Deb had tried to do to get rid of it (apparently a sign of demonic presence). I actually said, “Bring it on,” before turning out the lights! Anyway, bad idea! In the middle of the night, I woke up to see the dark figure of a man standing in the walk-in closet doorway. He raised his arms and flicked his hands in my direction. Suddenly, I was covered in spiders! I screamed, leapt out of bed, and ran down the hall to the bathroom, all the while hearing a man’s laughter. It took about two minutes of looking in the bathroom mirror and splashing cold water on my face before the sight and sensation of dozens of black spiders crawling all over my body finally subsided. I tried convincing myself (with little success) it was just a hallucination brought on by my expectation of some kind of “haunted” experience. In the end, I figured no real harm could come to me. I went back in, stood in the doorway of the rather large/deep walk-in closet, and made peace with the ghost. At this point, I sensed the deep sadness and loneliness of a being caught between realms, which moved me to pity him. So, I apologized for “challenging” him, told him I forgave him, and said a prayer on his behalf. I could sense no more malice and went back to bed and was able to sleep till morning. This was apparently the same ghost who burned the size 6 footprint into the hardwood floor of Deb’s bedroom. Her room shared a long common wall with the guest bedroom closet. She said she awoke one night to see him standing next to her bed and watched him walk toward her window before he just disappeared. She could smell burning wood and swears that was the first she saw of the footprint the following morning.

Apparently, there are public records stating that the house had been a home for mentally ill children and had almost burned down at one point and subsequently rebuilt. Who knows if any children perished in the fire, or if some mad scientist was doing experiments on children in that coset. Deb took me down to see the padded cells in the basement where some of the children must have been kept. Super creepy! I’m still not sure what to make of my experiences there. But after that spider nightmare incident, which occurred on the first night of my second visit, I had no more experiences. I can only attribute the quelling of the malevolent presence to the power of prayer in the name of Jesus Christ.

    • Yeah it’s candyce brown Reverend Debra Jennings was my sister she’s dead now thank God. She wanted attention she wanted to be famous she wanted to meet Matt Lauer she wanted a megachurch so she took the ghosts on TV for attention no more than that it was all about her. She’s really really sick she was addicted to pain medication for decades
