  1. I lived in Wadena for 5 years, and was a frequent visitor of spirit lake. Both during the day and at night. I never had any paranormal experiences here.

  2. my friend lives in Menahga right by the lake. what should I do? if I tell her she will not believe me? I don’t know what to do?please help me. thanks

  3. Being of Native American heritage myself, I find this kind of clumsy juvenile attempt at cultural appropriation especially obnoxious! Let’s change the story to a “WASP” maiden who got too much sun at the environment destroying golf course, had too many beverages at the 19th hole clubhouse and stumbled into the lake, passed out and drowned! Much less offensive and FAR more believable! Does anyone vet or review these for provenance before posting these?

These are simply legends told by people through the year, and most probably for entertainment value only. Possibly to scare children from venturing onto the lake by themselves. I enjoyed hearing the story my uncle told me when I was a child. It gave a reason for the name of the lake. Maybe he made it up, maybe he didn’t. Who’s to know? Since posting my comment at the beginning here, I’ve written a short story based on the legend told my my uncle, and it has been included in an anthology called Dark Visions, compiled by bestselling author Dan Alatorre. I called the story Spirit Lake. My memories of Menagha, Minnesota and Spirit Lake are some of my favorites.

  5. My friends and I was out ice fishing there one night about 5yrs ago, randomly a lady came to my hub asking if we had seen her daughter because she was looking for her daughter. We told her we have not seen anyone here but us so she left. I looked out of the hub shortly after, she vanished.
