Shelburne Museum

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Shelburne Museum

The museum consists of several historic buildings that contain relics from the past. One of the buildings here, the Dutton House, is said to have more to it than meets the eye. Built in 1872 in Cavendish and relocated to the museum grounds in 1950, the red colonial house’s ghosts must have traveled with it when it was moved. Witnesses have described the apparition of an older man hunkering down upstairs, under the slope of the roof, as well as the sound of a little girl crying.

  1. I went there before the 60’s house was taken out and it was the scariest thing I have ever Experienced, My mother and I walked in together waiting for someone to greet us at the front door but no one was there which was very weird considering they were doing tours in the house and the door was wide open so we walked in and toured it our self and as soon as you steeped foot into the living room it just gave you the hebiejbie feeling like you weren’t alone. As we continued on we went in to the “baby’s room” and every thing was calm we didn’t touch a thing no windows were open and there was no breeze that day and the little baby clothes cabinet opened BY ITS SELF and it was such a generic squeeeek sound, but so terrifying. Eminently after the atmosphere just changed and you knew something wasn’t right. We left that place eminently. The scariest paranormal experience of my life for sure.

When I went to the Shelburne museum I saw an apparition of a young girl on the Ticonderoga steamboat. She had brown long wavy looking hair, was wearing old fashioned clothing and looked pale and grey.
