Old Minnehaha Courthouse Museum

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Old Minnehaha Courthouse Museum

This historic courthouse is now the county museum, and is believed to be haunted by many different spirits. Staff and visitors claim to have heard someone falling down the stairs, and have heard disembodied footsteps walking between various rooms. Various visitors have also seen an elderly man sweeping one of the courtrooms, who vanishes when approached, as well as curtains moving by themselves, strange voices and icy presences.

  1. We have been visiting the courthouse several times. The first time, when my daughter was about 8. She always gets an unsettled, anxious feeling. She is 20 now, wanted to see it,. Still feels uneasy there, we had to leave early. She claims to have seen a ghost in the Pipestone museum several years ago

  2. My first visit to the Old Courthouse Museum was about 5 years ago. There was some sort of live music outside and we went in to get out of the heat. When we ventured up to the top floor staff was showing a young woman and maybe her mom the area below that could be used as a wedding venue. Sitting on a bench near the top of those stairs and near the balcony there was an elderly woman wearing a mid length skirt with her legs crossed at the ankles, sitting very upright with her hands crossed and a bag in her lap. She was wearing elbow length gloves, pearls, and a fancy hat. I wondered what she was doing up there alone but went down to gather more of the kids that didn’t come up with us. When I returned up there she was gone. There was no other way out of that area.
