Old Hardy Hotel

You are here Home  > Restaurants and Bars >  Old Hardy Hotel

Reports are unclear as to whether the haunted hotel and antique mall are still in operation–it was up for sale on eBay in October of 2008. Former owners reported hearing disembodied footsteps and closing doors on the second-floor hallway. One room, called the Murder Room, was the site of a stabbing. A soldier who was staying here in the 1940s got into a fight at the bar across the street. His killers followed him back to his hotel room, climbed onto the roof, and crept into the room from the balcony. Ghost hunters have caught video of misty shapes and electronic voice phenomena of a female saying “Yessss,” and employees have seen apparitions. Small children who were visiting have been frightened of something unseen, and witnesses say lights go on and off by themselves and objects have been known to be moved or disappear.

  1. Well, one day I was over at a friends house and her parents had to take care of a store while the owner was out. It was rainy, and wet. Well, being young and stupid like we are, we decided to walk down main street, check out the sights and stores.
This was my first time ever WALKING down main street before. I had been driven down there before, and seen main street plenty of times. Needless to say, seeing it up close was way different. Also, I did not know that this was the sight of The Old Hardy Hotel.
So my friend and I walked down one side of main street first. Being the busy street that main street is, we stayed up on the side walk, so we were very close to the stores and buildings.
We passed an old building and my friend says “Hey, look it’s the Old Hardy Hotel.” I looked up just in time to see a man, dressed in a uniform, but it didn’t look like a soldier uniform. Just a casual attire for what they used to where back then.
It scared me so bad, I bolted down the sidewalk of main street, away from there. Tripping and stublimg the whole way, trying to get away from there and trying not to hit any body else walking down main street.

  2. I lived downtown Hardy for the past 15 years. I not only lived in a haunted home but saw and felt many things. Hardy in my opinion is one of the most haunted towns ever. In my house alone doors would open and close things would be found for you and laid in a spot you would be sure to find and definitely not where it was before. Our family has quite a few of theses stories but the best and sweetest story is of my daughter in law and grand baby. She was upstairs taking a bath in the big claw foot tub with the baby when she got out she went to my daughter’s room to get dressed in. She laid the baby on the bed to dry and dress herself , the baby started crying. Then she heard ssssshhhhhh shush shush right next to her. We were pretty sure that Mrs Burton was one of our ghost she loved all our kids and was a calming protective influence over the home.
But back to Hardy in general one night walking back from my dad’s house at the top of south Spring st. as I approached the bottom of whomptom hill there is a clearing before the bridge, I saw shadows moving between the trees. I stopped and really looked and yeah still moving around, okay deep breath now I have the creaps but I stay still and look for light sources that would create the illusion of shadow humans moving back and forth between the trees and nothing it was at the end of summer lots of leaves still on their tree or bush just no reason for the shadow people. I stood a minute more really watching the shadows and I realize that they aren’t just humanoid shadow figures but that they have red eyes no other features but red eyes. I ran over the bridge and well over the tracks before smoking and over weight made me stop and them I still walked very quickly. Well that is a couple of my experiences in Hardy we had quite a few happen to us there maybe I will write more of them later.

  3. Been a while for updates I see. I work across the street and we have our products stored there. I have seen footage of things and I do believe ghosts are present.
Once a friend of mine taunted the spirits.
We put some of our products against the hallway wall and she said to the spirits,” Now don’t ya”ll mess with this stuff.”
We came back 30 min. later and our stuff was scattered hall over the second floor!!
    We got out of there.
I don’t play around with the spirits. I go over there all of the time. I try to make them( more than one) feel welcome.
Planning to spend the night there real soon!!
    This is 11-9-2016.

  4. the first room upstairs on the left also has an energy. i went a few years ago when they were still open and something would not allow me into the room. it was as if someone was pushing me back by my shoulders. it just would not let me enter the room. the second room which everyone knows about with the soldier i have witnessed the rocking chair start rocking. and out on the balcony the chess board that was placed out there the pieces on it would move.

  5. My parents lived in the Hotel in the early 2000’s . Had an apartment upstairs and a gift shop downstairs. I really never saw anything strange but it was very creepy. Mothers cat was always terrified !!

  6. A few years ago while there I went upstairs and was just window shopping, I was looking at antique baby clothes that had turned a beige yellow color and I started to get a horrible headache then I heard a noise I have NEVER heard before it was a growl…an angry growl. I thought someone was there with a guide-dog but no one else was up there at all. I put the baby gown back and left IMMEDIATELY. I have been back and nothing out of the ordinary has happened to me since.

  7. THE HOTEL WAS BOUGHT BY ANOTHER COUPLE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE DOING RENOVATIONS. BUT THE LAST TIME I WENT I WAS GONNA STOP AND TALK TO THEM AND IT WAS UP FOR SALE AGAIN. KINDA THINK THE CITY SHOULD TURN IT INTO A MUSEUM. THEY CANT KEEP PEOPLE IN IT TO SAVE A LIFE.
NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN IT WAS OPEN I WOULD TRY TO WALK UPSTAIRS AND IT WOULD FEEL HEAVY AND OPPRESIVE AND MAKE ME SHORT OF BREATH NO MATTER HOW SLOW I WALKED. AND IN THE GROUND FLOOR IN THE ROOM ALL THE BACK AND TO THE LEFT THERE IS SOMETHING BACK THERE. IT SCARED ME SO BAD I WOULDNT GO BACK IN THERE. I DONT CARE WHAT EVERYONE SAYS NOT ALLTHE SPIRITS THERE ARE GOOD.
