Old Crowley Mansion Site

The home that once occupied this area was said to be Erie’s first haunted house, but now, only a field remains here. The Crowley family were rich, but plagued with tragedy including murder, illness, and untimely death. One of those who was murdered (by his wife) chose to torment her in the afterlife by making a wreck of the house every midnight. After the Crowley family left, other families would occupy the lot, but not remain for that long. When the house fell into ruins, people would still report odd figures on the land, believed to be the Crowley family. Today, people report overwhelming feeling of sadness and negative emotions when they go to where the mansion once stood.

  1. This information is incorrect. The Crowley place still stands, and the story is also inaccurate. The 80-year-old father was set ablaze by home intruders in the late 1800s while the daughter jumped out of the second story window to avoid the intruders. I have driven past this innocuous looking but cool stone house for many years when I worked at the GE plant across the street.
