Nankin Mill Tavern

You are here Home  > Restaurants and Bars >  Nankin Mill Tavern

Nankin Mills Tavern is no longer in operation and reports say the building stands empty–except for its ghost, that is. The friendly spirit is said to make noises like banging in the kitchen or slamming doors in the basement. Locals suppose he’s a miller who was killed here near sometime around 1900.

    1. Really?! Do you REALLY have to keep
SHOUTING & swearing? I’m no prude, but it was just annoying. No actual information was given, just “Holy shit! I’m not goin’ down there…” & on & on & on. Get an education, research your sites, & grow up, then possibly try this again.

    2. im not sure when exactly it was now..(guessing the late 90s?) but there was a terrible car accident that happened across the street very close to the the tavern..i think there were at least three or more kids that lost their lives there ..I was taking a different route for some reason and came upon a memorial shrouded around a large tree with snap shots and love notes etc. ..this was I think about 20 yards west of the restaurant on the opposite side of the street where it was rather wooded ..I asked a good friend that has relatives in the area and he told me of the ill fated story (at this time was just weeks prior)..some youths were driving around in the evening and for some reason had lost control of the car and slammed into a tree pinning them as the car caught fire.. my friends nephew actually worked at the tavern at the time and came out to help but Im not sure if we was able to do anything. I know only of the shrine memorial that I saw and damage to the tree but as far as the event itself ,im sure someone may know more of the actual details and dates..could explain some of the paranormal activity in that area

      • I was working there at the time the accident happened, my friend Nick Dove and his brother were the first ones there to help the people,3 people, 2 males and 1 female, the female was wearing her seatbelt which collapses her lungs and she didn’t make it but the males did, the paranormal was happening long before this incident happened, I heard a bartender that uses to work there say they seen a ghost sitting at a table drinking a beer, they tried to take a picture of it but only orbs showed up in the picture,bi worked there for 10 years and never experienced any ghost!

        • Kevin! You and Nick were my headache “kids” back in the day. I really hope you’re both doing well as you’ve grown. Sincerely, your bartender Debbie

    3. This place IS NOT haunted. My mother worked here for 10 years till the day it closed. I had both my baby showers here.

Even before it closed, the place was OVERRUN with rats.

They were the cause of ALL the strange noises!

The place was falling apart even then. Doors WOULDN’T close because they couldn’t. Doors slammed themselves because the door frames were no longer level. My mother opened, and she closed. She believes in ghosts 100% but assured me she never “saw” anything. She heard lots… Of rats. When they were building the houses nearby, the rats invaded Nankin Mills Tavern.

    4. Anyone know the entire history of this tavern? When it opened and closed? I want to metal detect the surrounding area and was curious how far back that building goes. Thanks!

      • The Nankin Mills Inn dates back to the 1920s though the original building burned down in January of 1945 and was rebuilt and opened in the summer of that same year.

My grandfather hung out here in the 50s. They had a dance floor out back and corn cob roasts. Ted Bartnik (spelling?) took it over in the 60s from his dad. It was old then.
