Killough Monument stands in remembrance of the 1838 Killough Massacre, said to be the largest and last Native American attack in East Texas. Eighteen people were killed here, and it’s said that at least some of their spirits have remained behind. Visitors have seen black apparitions and noticed strange feelings near the site, and some have suffered mysterious scratches from an unseen source.

    1. I live close by and have never seen spirits, horsemen ect.. It is a quiet serene place. There are some vandals and strange folk who come around leaving weird stuff in the trees. One time I was driving on the road nearby and there were two men, one wearing an antique black widows dress walking down the road. Kind of a cult thing I guess. If not for all that, it is a quiet historical area.

    2. One night in 2016 I was driving up Hwy 69 from Lufkin back to Tyler. My headlights shown on a young girl on the side of the road. She was wearing a long white dress with pink trim. I swear I’m not making this up. Next I saw a sign that said Killough. I can’t be the only one that has seen her. If you have seen her please let me know. Ninezerothreetwofiveseveneightzerozeronine

Okmy dad used to come home when I was 9-10 years old and tell me and my sisters about an Indian sitting on a paint horse. He worked for the railroad southern Pacific.Years later I found out that railroad tracks runs right beside the Killough monument.Me and my sisters just thought our dad was drunk.

    3. I went here in 2015. With my boyfriends and two girls friends of mine … so we all get out the car i got scared and so did one of my friends. So we get back in the car , so my bf and other friend had back to the car the doors lock and the car dies :/ we were stuck here for hours trying to get the car to start ;/

    4. .my family are the ones who were massacred. my name is Tommy KILLOUGH all of my brothers and sisters are named after our aunt’s and uncles that died there.I have 15brothers and sisters .

    5. My father,Jimmy Henry KILLOUGH used to tell me stories about an Indian chief sitting on a horse .My dad said that he saw the Indian dressed in full regalia. I know it’s true,my father would never lie to me.Best of all.We didn’t have any internet or computers back then. But my dad worked on the rail road (southern pacific) and that track runs down that 5mile stretch of road going straight to my families monument. Now ain’t that a coincidence?

I grew up in Jacksonville so I’m really familiar with the Killough Monument. When I was in high school, it took on a dark feeling. Satanists were said to have ceremonies out there and someone painted a pentagram on the road leading to the monument. I once saw a person in a black robe jump in his car and take off one night I was there. Take it from me, don’t go there in the dark and don’t go there alone. Make sure someone knows where you’re going and what time you’ll be home.
