Holy Cross Sanatorium

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Holy Cross Sanatorium

A former TB hospital, many patients died here. People report eerie feelings at the site. Although most of the rumors are pure urban legend -satanic cults, bottomless pits, etc.- are not based in any fact that we have found.

    1. I have visited Camp Cody/Holy Cross both in the day and at night. The building pictured in the video was in fact the boiler building that supplied heat to the various buildings. The boiler building was the last remaining building on the site and was demolished a few years ago. Only the steps and the walls of the basement area remain. Foundations of many other buildings are also viewable. There is a vandalized cemetery at the NW corner of the Holy Cross section of land. Supposedly all remains have been removed but the only proof I have found is that the six nuns that had been buried in this cemetery are now buried at the Mountain View Cemetery. There is a water fountain in front of where the hospital would have stood.
There are rumors of many deaths happening at this location by cults, angry lovers, etc since the facility was last utilized. Only two deaths have been confirmed: 1 – animal sacrifice by a cult 2 – an individuals body found and assume to have been killed by the exgirlfriends current boyfriend.
During my night visit I was able to capture numerous breath taking pictures of orbs, spirits. My friend heard foot steps of someone walking in front of her just a few feet away but no one was there. A picture captured a shadow person sitting on the fountain wall with what appeared to have their feet dangling in the water that no longer flowed into it.
A few weeks after our night visit I was informed that a person had committed suicide at the fountain during the time frame Holy Cross was functional. It is unknown if this person was a patient or a member of the Holy Cross staff.
Not only did TB patients die at Holy Cross but so did some of the nuns suffering from this horrible illness. Prior to the 200 acres and facilities becoming Holy Cross property it was a 2,000 acre military encampment, Camp Cody. The hospital that Holy Cross use was originally the hospital for Camp Cody. It is unknown how many if any deaths happened during the time period Camp Cody was fully operational as a military training facility. Upon troops returning from war the hospital was still ran by the military for the wounded warriors of that time period. Many soldiers returned back in the US disease ridden (TB) and were tended to at this military hospital.
The facility after a few years was turned over to the city of Deming. Upon sale by the city of the catholic church it was agreed that the military patients would continue on at the hospital and be treated and cared for by the nuns.
Toward the end of the use of Holy Cross the numbers of ill had decrease and the need for the staff had been lowered to just a few nuns to tend to patients. In it’s last days there was a fire on the grounds that destroy a large portion of the hospital which caused Holy Cross to close it’s doors.
Ghost and spirits do remain on these grounds. But if you desire to go and capture spirits/ ghost remember that they will only show themselves to you if they want ‘you’ to see them.

My family moved to Deming in 1987, My parents still live there. As teen we all visited holy cross, day and night. We had many the adventures. My friends and i have seen a lot of odd and scary things. We actually could hear voices, seen images and found a few headstones as well. in the tunnels was not the place you would want to be at night. I believe it to have been haunted, it was not an evil presence just eerie and somber. if you go during the day I am sure you could find a lot of artifacts if you really looked hard.
we had a lot of scary and fun times out there.
