Historic York Prison

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Historic York Prison

This historic prison is now abandoned, but was built in 1906 and decommissioned in 1979. Visitors have reported being followed around the building by the apparitions of criminals, and have seen and smelt someone lighting a cigarette when there is no one around.

  1. I been it this building multiple times and not once have I ever seen a ghost or spirit, before they put up a cement wall me and friends used to stay the night in this old place _

  2. Here is an image I took today. A little boy’s spirit, I believe, lingers. Ivan Dunlap. I am trying to help this boy pass over… If you blow up the image, look behind the truck, at the prison entrance. To the lower right of the No Trespassing sign, you see a ghostly image of a child with their hands folded against their chest.

  3. I’ve personally investigated this place and i can absolutelysay that it is in fact haunted. Not only have i obtained audio evidence, but also what i believe to be visual as well.

Would really like to tour the building. My mother was incarcerated here , I remember visiting her and looking through several layers of wire for visits, I was a minor at the time only got visits on Sundays

  4. New to PA and the way to get around is by landmarks. I’m crazy for architecture… the older the better. Finally stopped by Old York County Prison on Chestnut St. Took a few shots from up close, but still from outside. Couldn’t find a way in. Damn it!
