Hernando County Court House

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Hernando County Court House

Built in 1913, this court house is alleged to be haunted by the ghost of a criminal who tried to escape from the second floor. Some say blood stains still appear where he was shot by the bailiff… but we’re not so sure.

  1. Our Paranormal Group, West Coast Paranormal, did an investigation here. It is impossible to get inside. We investigated the outer border of the oldest section of the Courthouse. We paid a lot of attention to the large oaks out front, because they were used to hang people back in the day. This is a really difficult location to investigate due to traffic in the area. We did get some photo’s of a couple orbs on one side of the location. We were told by one of the security guards that the basement, which holds all of the records has a really eerie feeling about it.

  2. Back around 2002 when I was working in the area, I had time before my next stop and decided to go there, I had what I call a “pull” to do so. This was during the day time, I was a Pest Control Technician at the time and our office was around the block basically. I went up the stairs to the second floor and found old pictures in frames on the walls with descriptions of the court houses past. I started looking around and felt something and looked and seen what looked like a bloody bullet hole. I thought no way that’s there, so I walked up to it and touched it and in my head had an image of someone being shot and killed there. The wall was smooth but I could clearly see a bloody 3d bullet hole like a hologram projection. I want to say it was right as you walked in on a vertical beam straight ahead, but I’m not sure if that’s accurate or not as I haven’t been up there since then. I had no fear and didn’t sense anything negative, it actually felt peaceful. I thought it was pretty neat but didn’t actually know what to think of it at the time. A few years later I was looking up haunted places near me and found out that someone did get shot and killed upstairs there. There is a lot more than meets the eye as we only perceive a small percentage of the light spectrum/energy that is out there.

  3. I work here cleaning the inside at night. I clean the old court room. There is no blood stain anymore. The carpet can’t be more then 20-30 years old. It is haunted 100%. I’m there until 1 am by myself on a floor and I have had doors shirt behind me. Things fall of of desk. Sounds of people running around upstairs. It can get really spooky in there. But there not harmful at all. I think they just like to mess with people.
