  1. Saw the ghost of the priest of the church. Scratched my friends arm and when we ran and got back into the car, the windows fogged up and upside down crosses appeared. It was terrifying,

the church is no longer there. the cemetery is all that’s left. the woods have been clear cut around the spot. been gone for quite a few years now.

This is my family’s land. My brother and I played their in the church as children. It looked actually very similar to the state in the photo above as my grandpa Jack Harper told us to get out of there. I’ve always been curious of the legend. It’s not talked about to us. However, it was very spooky to us. We never had an “experience”. I was fascinated when it was on Alabama ghost hunters!!!

  5. Your story is fake. No murder. My relatives back to 1832 are buried there. Should be ashamed to spread such garbage. Private property.

  6. Mr. Keith Smith how do you know something tragic didn’t happen before the family or church were there? I have rode past the church when it was still there and went to shoot on someones land with them about 1-2 miles down the road and there does seem to be some heavy emotional weight in the area. I mean when the Indians were in the area, they often would kill families at a time, same as the white man did when they came. Or, just because it was never stated something happened there doesnt mean that someone didnt do something evil there. Do you live on the property because you seem somewhat angry yourself?

  7. I grew up going to Beulah Baptist Church, right up the road from Harper Hill on Lovelady Road. I grew up knowing the history of both Harper Hill and Lovelady Bridge. I always looked inside the church anytime I passed by, and it fascinated me. I always wondered if it was haunted and if I would see something. I wanted to explore it, but sadly it was taken down years before I could. People would steal the wood off of the church due to its value (old wood is worth more than new wood). The cemetery didn’t always have a fence around it, that just appeared one day when I was older. When I was a kid, at Halloween Beaulah would do hayrides through the backroads and we’d pop back out at Harper Hill. The older youth would jump out and scare us along the way. When I was around 8 or 9 we went past the church, nothing out of the ordinary right? I thought so too until we passed by. I looked in as I normally do, it was just dark this time, and I saw people standing in the doorway of the church. I looked away and looked back but the image remained. I don’t remember full details, as this was the only time this happened, but I do however remember a man standing there in what looked like a suit. I faintly remember there being what looked like a whole congregation, but like I said i was 8/9 and I’m 21 now.

  8. I remember going there years ago and hearing a heartbeat in the cemetery. The closest sound we could think of was gun shots off in the distance, but the sound had that lub-dub sound. I went back a lot of times after that when the church was up and afterwards and never experienced anything. There’s always an eerie feeling, but probably due to it being in the middle of nowhere basically.

Have visited twice in the last week just out of curiosity. Sad to see that it’s fallen into such a state of disrepair. I wish I’d had the opportunity to see the church prior to it being destroyed. I’ve yet to find any credible source to substantiate the legends floating around regarding the murdering madman minister.

  10. I’ve been there many times over the years. Before the old church was torn down it had an aura around it, one of evil. I’ve been during the day, and during the night. Its as creepy at noon as it is at midnight. For anyone who has an interest in the paranormal, you should visit here.
