Former inn horseman Boots Berry is believed to haunt the inn. He was born in 1840 in Room 302, son of a chambermaid and an inn horseman. When he became inn horseman himself, he was awarded a medal for saving some stagecoach passengers when the horses ran away. Taverns all over gave Boots free drinks from that time on, which turned out not to be such a good thing. Alcoholism lost him his job, and he became a wanderer, eventually landing in a New Orleans prison. Another prisoner taught him to tap dance, and it is believed that this is how he earned the nickname Boots. Boots came back to the inn years later, and in 1902 saved a little girl who had been trapped on the roof in a snowstorm, but during his efforts fell to his death. And according to legend, during a snowstorm folks can hear the ghost of Boots Berry tap dancing across the roof.

They changed the room numbers at the Inn aND it is now room 243 but is on the 3rd floor
We are currently in 243. Last night I heard tapping, I woke up looked around and went back to sleep. Just this morning started researching and learned about Boots. Interesting!!
