Gaslight Melodrama Theatre and Music Hall

You are here Home  > Theaters >  Gaslight Melodrama Theatre and Music Hall

This former theater is said to be haunted by the former owner of a toy shop that this building once housed. The owner committed suicide here. Although haunting incidents don’t occur as often now, in the 1980s props and stage settings were known to move by themselves and many witnesses reported unexplained noises.

  1. It was the old melodrama on China grade loop in Oildale.
Not this new one in Rosedale. I worked there from 1989 till 1997 as a child actor. I had heard the stories and spoken to people who witnessed strange things. Spending a large majority of my adolescents years at the theater I experienced several unexplained things, and there was always a strange feeling in the upstairs area of the building.

  2. The “haunting” was probably just rats or some other small animals residing in the ceiling and walls. I can’t begin to tell you how many people I’ve encountered who actually thought their homes were haunted, only later to discover it was actually rodents. possums, pigeons or raccoons that were the source of the “haunting.”
