This 1800s former hospital, also called Overbrook, was turned into a psychiatric hospital in the 1920s. It was said to have been haunted by phantom nurses and patients. Also, the sound of rolling gurneys could be seen, and a demonic presence was felt by witnesses. According to reports, in 1917 many patients froze to death in their beds when a boiler failed. In fact, some reports say over 10,000 patients died here altogether before the hospital closed in 1975. Many ghost-hunting TV shows have featured the site in 2008 and 2009; some did not name the exact location. The building is said to have been demolished in 2009.

      You might be thinking of a different Essex. This is Essex County, New Jersey. I get the sense you're thinking of Essex of the UK.

    This place was one of the best ghost adventures shows. The episode is named abandoned psychiatric hospital. It is one creepy looking location. At the end you can see an orb fly into Nick's face and the side of his face turns beat red like someone smacked him upside the head.

      I live 3.5 miles away. We live in front of what used to be the essex country dairy farm. The 8foot fence remains. I'm starting to believe the entire area is haunted. My sons seen a shadow figure walking through the woods at night. We have frequent visitors
