Chateau Ste. Michelle

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Chateau Ste. Michelle

Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery Manor House was built on land once owned by lumber and dairy baron Fredrick Stimson, and the early 1900s Stimson mansion still remains on the land. A folk legend tells of Mr. Stimson’s affair with a servant named Elizabeth, who became pregnant. When Mrs. Stimson found out, Elizabeth mysteriously “fell” down the stairs, and to this day folks say Elizabeth haunts the place. Witnesses describe cold spots, eerie shadows and unexplained noises alsong with electrical anomalies and flushing toilets.

  1. I worked at CSM in the early 90s. At a John Sarich dinner, I had to use the service stairs from the second floor down to the kitchen. I was with a fellow staff member, coming down into the kitchen when I felt a hand on my back and a cold chill through my right elbow. When I got to the kitchen, and told my coworker what I felt she told me Elizabeth eas just saying hi.

  2. When I was 8 years old, in the 90s, I went my my aunties wedding there. We were told the tale of Elizabeth. So I wondered off by myself and found the service stairs, which were very skinny, my toes hung off. The air seemed to stick in my lungs though, as if it were muggy or something. I remember I was hot from running around with all of my cousins but on those steps I could almost see my breath. I remember getting sad and angry as I walked back down them by myself, imagining Elizabeth falling. My night was ruined, I was all moody for the rest of the night. All night us kids stayed there, while the grownups partied in the main building. We had a magic show and everything. Up until bout midnight when we left, I could feel these curtains of presence or heaviness idk.
