Yorktown Memorial Hospital

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Yorktown Memorial Hospital

The 1940s hospital closed around 1988, but apparently all of its patients haven’t moved out. Witnesses say they have been punched, slapped, kicked or scratched by something unseen, and shadow figures have been seen in the hallways. A man named T.J. who died of a heroin overdose here is said to be one of the spirits left behind, but there are many other legends and ghosts said to be associated to this spooky place. The hospital was featured on TV’s Ghost Adventures.

    1. I worked here several years before they closed it down. We used to hear whispers when no one was around,we would also feel a very strong sense of being watched. I never told anyone what I felt, but others felt the same thing as well as they would talk about being touched and hearing their names being called when no one was around. Twas eerie, then I can imagine how it must be now. I would go back to check it out,but not sure if they would allow me in to check things out. One of my coworkers wrote on the wall of the nursery “baby cry.” It should be on the left wall as you walk into the nursery, not sure if it is still there.Regardless, check it out.

      • Hi know you don’t know me but I found your comment interesting and was wondering if I could us your comment in a book I am writing. I can leave names out and anonymous

    2. My mother worked here. I’ve had plenty of nights and days in this hospital as I have grown older. Some are optimistic but there are a lot of things that go on that are unexplainable. When you are with a group of people things don’t seem so bad but get alone and all kinds of things start to sound off and apparitions appear. If you sit in one place long enough you will see and hear all you want to see and hear for your visit to the hospital. Especially if you are around the back doors where the gentleman that died of a heroin overdose was just dropped off. What friends he had they left him at the back door and took off. There are several things that are still in the hospital from when it was open like the gurneys, beds, mirrors, chairs, utensils and lots more. Try laying in one of the drawers that are in the morgue part of the hospital. I don’t see many lasting long in that drawer its very creepy. As well as the basement were the couple was killed at. There is so much history to the hospital I could go on for days but whats even better is going yourself and experiencing it first hand. You for sure will not be let down and will be glad you went.

    3. This place is really haunted. My brother and several of our friends went there and spent the night roaming the hospital. You have to get permission first, don’t just show up and expect them to allow you to investigate. Anyway, the nursery is the creepiest place of them all. One of our friends ran out of the nursery screaming, all scared because of what she said saw. She claims a doll started talking as she walked by. According to her, the doll said,”Don’t you love me?, don’t go” SH e said that when she turned and looked at the doll, it winked at her. She really was very frightened, to the point of she insisted on leaving the building and staying in the truck.I walked into the nursery and began to talk to the same doll, but it did not move or speak. The person she was with, claimed the doll did speak as he heard it as well. I stared deep into the doll’s eyes and I could feel that something in that doll was staring back at me. I left the nursery and went down stairs to the basement. I spoke to the owner and he said that he hears the same doll talking all of the time. This is truly a haunted hospital, go see for yourself.

    4. I went with three of my friends to visit this place when we were on our way to Austin. We stopped and located the owner who lived in a RV on the premises. He allowed us to go in and check this place out. He told us what to look out for as he has seen many things happen here. He told us that a doll in the nursery will sometimes talk. This doll has never been moved and has sat in the same place for many years. It is covered in dust and looks very creepy. As we ventured in the building, we went to the nursery and I saw the doll the owner told me about. I looked at it and asked it to speak to me. It didn’t say anything. The room was very, very cold and we felt like something was watching us.We went into the morgue area and looked around. It felt creepy and we didn’t see anything, but we heard a couple of doors slam shut very hard. No windows were open, it was not windy outside, it was actually 90 degrees outside. We didn’t see anything, but we felt a strong presence. When we left, I told the owner that several doors had slammed shut, he told me that none of the windows were open and that it happens a lot. He has heard the doll speak several times. He said it said,”Don’t you love me?” It also winked at him. He said that he sees shadows of people walking down the hallway. Sometime a chair will tip over by itself, a wheelchair will roll by itself down the hallway as if it was pushed. I was hoping to catch these things on video, but we only caught the sound of doors slamming. This place is for real, come and check it out for yourself. Talk to the owner first, he will probably allow you to go inside. Just don’t steal or trash the place.

My name is Al and I was born in the Yorktown Hospital in June 1952 and I weighed only a pound and a half. I was given my last rites and baptized right after birth for the fear that I would not live the day. God has a sense of humor, I am now close to 65 years of age and will retire in 22 days after 39 years of service in law in enforcement. The mortality rate for preemies was high at the time. I do believe that there are other spirits there caught in limbo. I am glad that God touch my body the day I was born to live as long as I have, God is great—–

We stayed at the hospital and saw many things. As we pulled up we saw a black figure in the upstairs window. Then when we walked in a little girl attached herself to my stepson. We left and went to the car. A ball came rolling down the hall towards us and we heard soft laughing. My wife had small handpainted on her pants and doors were slamming. We read a book out loud in the library and my daughter caught a glimpse of a little girl in the doorway on camera. In the basement the blood on the wall still has a heat signature.

    7. So I’ve always been a skeptic, that us until my visit to yorktown hospital on 11.23.18

My wife and I toured the hospital with caretaker, Stephanie. While in the hallway just outside the chapel, I felt my right arm start to burn. After about a minute or so, several scratches showed up!! It looked like a small hand. PS, I’m covered in tattoos. Also, as I stood outside the chapel, I started to cry for no reason, not once, but twice!!

      Now a believer.

    8. I was driving to pick up Lynn the gf of the guy that lives on the premises. I had a buddy of mine he is an older gentelman Ed Nelson well, there was a server thunder storm so I was being extra careful I was going east on Hwy 72 so I signaled to the right as I drove in the hospital parking lot I looked up and frecked the *μ^× out Ed was laughing I drove right into the deep pot hole I had been trying to avoid Ed says whats wrong: ” the old lady at the window ” = I stated: “what old lady” says Ed “Ed she’s leaving the hospital heading toward me” : Ed’s laughing so hard because he knows I have a special gift some may say a spirtual gift that will have those who do not believe wondering how it is possible for one to converse with the other side. (** I have researched and understand how this is possible**) I do not like doing readings however; at times it is not a choice I am given. Finally lynn comes out and I have my head rested on the steering wheel Ed said there’s Lynnie so I open the door now I have to get out to my amazement the old women is gone and I tell Ed not to tell anyone. That was pretty {μΩ× up for me.
