Yellow Jacket Mine

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Yellow Jacket Mine

An 1869 fire led to the hauntings at this mine. The enormous fire was impossible to contain by firefighters, and expanded into other mines. More than 35 miners were killed, and not all the bodies were recovered. Reports say 11 of them stayed behind in spirit form to haunt the mine. The TV show Ghost Adventures featured the site on one of its episodes.

    1. A few months ago I stayed at the Miners cabin with some friends for a weekend and we noticed strange occurrences mainly around the outside of the cabin adjacent to the old Yellow Jacket Mine. I can’t say I was freaked out but more intrigued and mystified by the banging and scratching coming from what seemed like inside the walls of the back room. It was eerie, make no mistake about that.

    2. My son and me woke up at 5 am one nice July morning to take pictures of the town, we went to one of the yellow jacket mine openings (by train tracks) and I heard a weird sound from inside. Can’t explain it. Wouldn’t say it was a “ghost” but it was abnormal and worth mentioning. Didn’t get any goose bumps or feeling I needed to leave.

      • I forgot a part of my story, when I heard this noise I took 3 pictures inside of mine opening, 2nd one was only one that had small orb in it, other two just clear picture of mine.

    3. Stayed next door at the historic hotel and didn’t hear/see anything unusual. Worth noting, though, that the place serves a hauntingly tasty meal.
