The Montrose House

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  The Montrose House

The original building that stood here was once a jail, a funeral home, and a schoolhouse, but that building burned down in the 1920s. The current building was finished in 1926 and is said to be haunted by a little boy’s ghost. He is seen often in the halls and has been known to play tricks; they say room 5 is his favorite. He knocks on doors at all hours of the night and runs away, often giggling. He removes the window shades and sets them neatly on the pillows, and changes the time on the clocks.

Another ghost said to live here is a man who has been seen near the front office. He is said to look extremely real. Also, it is said that during the equinoxes, objects have been thrown across the dining room.

  1. We just stayed in room 5 over the weekend. All night we were having issues with the AC unit as it was soooo cold and we were unable to get any hot air-we tried everything! At 2am I was messaging Gretchen about these issues. When we were finally switching rooms the next morning to go down the hall, we came back in the room to do one last check and suddenly the hot air started blowing full force. In hindsight, this was probably a little boy playing tricks on us!
