The Charles Applegate Home

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  The Charles Applegate Home

The house was built between 1852 and 1856 by Charles Applegate. The ghost of him, his wife and several of their fifteen children haunt the upper level of the house, while the apparitions of a man in baggy pants and a lady in white haunt the parlour room on the ground floor.

  1. I got to visit the house when it was open, I believe in July, but it was 30 years ago. I haven’t been back. My sisters husband is a relation to the Applegate family. I was very excited to visit the home and to actually be able to tour inside. We had been chatting about it for a week or so and had heard it was haunted but it was a daytime visit so I wasn’t worried. Two strange things happened a half hour before we got there. My mom was cleaning kitchen cabinets and I bent over, came back up quickly and all the skin on the top of my nose was scraped off from a cabinet door that wasn’t open a moment before. Got a band aid and walked out the front door to meet up with my ride to the Applegate house and a wasp stung me below my chin. Another band aid. Arrived at the Applegate house, started the tour. We went upstairs and our guide was sharing info about the family. I asked him if he thought the house was haunted and immediately fell (I still think I was pushed) down the stair case. Needless to say as I limped to the car with band aids everywhere and a little scared, I did not go back. Have no desire to go back.
