The Biltmore Estate

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  The Biltmore Estate

The famous Biltmore Estate was owned by George W. Vanderbilt, died from complications of appendicitis in 1914. Afterward, his wife would sit in front of the marble fireplace in the library and talk to George’s spirit. Now, witnesses say you can still hear her voice talking, and both spirits are said to linger in their mansion. George has been felt in the Billiard Room and the Oak Sitting Room, and apparitions have been seen along with laughter and screams. A phantom headless orange cat has been spotted many times between the Gardens and the Bass Pond. Many other phenomena have been reported at this vast historic home and tourist attraction.

  1. I just talked to one of the PR persons, they do not allow ANY kind of recordings….video, photos or DVR. They are very closed off to this type on thing. I was told, I could purchase a tour ticket, but could not do any kind of paranormal ANYTHING on the grounds or in the house.

    • It’s absolutely haunted I felt the anxiety and sickness all through this place. I went with a church group years back around Christmas nobody seemed intuned with what I was feeling my husband was in law enforcement and knew an employee in security confirmed that I was correct in my findings.

  2. (1988/89) While touring the indoor pool area I was walking through a narrow hallway and suddenly felt as if I had Ice water running through my veins. I also felt like I wanted to cry. The feeling dissipated within minutes, but I’ll never forget the experience.

    • The same thing happened to both my husband & myself this past summer of 2016..in the same hallway..also felt very frightened.not me but the person I was feeling…

  3. Last year my boyfriend and I went on a tour for our anniversary. While there he became extremely agitated, which was completely out of character for him and started mumbling rude things to me like he didn’t understand why he needed a house that big and such. When we got home he had no recollection of it and he actually said that he nejoyed it and would love to go again. We have since broken up but our pictures (Didn’t know we weren’t supposed ot take any OOPS) from Mrs. Vanderbilt’s wifes room show an indentation on the bed, almost like someone is sitting on it.
