Lily, the ghost of a beautiful slave woman from Barbados, is said to haunt this inn along with her beloved. Lily and the nephew of former owner Major William Hardee had a secret affair, and when Hardee found out, he sent Lily away. The nephew, distraught over losing her, committed suicide here. Both ghosts are said to remain here in their afterlives, and guests have reported a lot of unusual happenings like being passionately kissed in the night or waking up under the bed. Also reported have been disembodied whispering and moans, electrical anomalies, locked doors found wide open, moving books and pictures, and much more.

    1. I was married to my now ex-husband in April 2002. We honeymooned at the St. Francis in for two nights, April 7 and April 8. We stayed in the Garcia Suite. We drove over from the west coast and we didn’t get there until about 9:30 in the evening. When we checked in we were taken to The Garcia room 3rd floor suite. In the hallway across from our room there was an old wood cabinet and both the doors on the cabinet were closed when we checked into the room. No one was staying on the 3rd floor. After showing us our room, the person left and went down stairs. The door to our room was still open as we were taking luggage up the stairs. Again, no one was on that floor nor did I see anyone passing on the stairwell and hallway (the only way to get to the room). On the last walk up the stairs, the cabinet door was open about 8 inches. Our walking in the hallway back and forth bring up the luggage could not have tripped the door open. I found this experience to be very creepy.
