Spanish Military Hospital

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Spanish Military Hospital

The Spanish Military Hospital Museum is a reconstructed military hospital, a representation of the original building that was here in the 1700s and 1800s. Witnesses have heard footsteps, detected unexplained scents, and seen apparitions in and out of the building. Doors open and close by themselves, and objects have been known to move across the room at least once during a ghost tour.

This experience occurred eleven years ago. I was in St. Augustine with my best friend celebrating our birthdays. We decided to go on a ghost tour. One of the stops was the Spanish Military Hospital. It was creepy at night but no big deal until something horrifying happened. We were in one of the rooms sitting on the beach. I was on the end. I suddenly felt like I had been dipped in ice water. I started screaming at the same time my “ghost meter” was going off. My friend put her hand to my face and she too started screaming saying, “She’s so cold, she’s so cold!” After about one minute it felt like this energy was leaving my body. I was freaked out and left the building immediately. It was one of the most terrifying experiences I have ever had. I will never set foot inside this building ever again. I don’t think they offer tours at night there anymore but who is to say that this could not happen during the day.
