Singing River

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Singing River

Legend states that the Pascagoula River was the site of a mass suicide by the Pascagoula Indian tribe. Facing enslavement and slaughter from a pending battle against a superior force, they chose suicide en masse rather than facing defeat. As the marched into the water, they sang a death song and that is the music that the river continues to repeat to this day.

      • November. Wallace  |

I am from Mississippi. And iam Native. Indian. What happened. Was the Biloxi Indian. Chief. Daughter. Was in love with the pascagoula Indian. CChief’s son and she over heard her dad talking to some braves that he wanted. Them to make a surprise. Attack. On the pascagoula. Tribe wee hours of the morning. While everyone. Would. Be sleeping so the blioxi Chief’s daughter. Snuck off and went and told the pascagoula. Chief. And his son what her father. Was planing to do so the pascagoula. Chief. And his tribe not want to do battle for something. So stupid. Started singing their death song after they prayed and the biloxi Cheif. Daughter. Held her lover’s hand and walked down in to the water with them when the biloxi tribe got there .there was no one there and than he descoverd his daughter. Had left something. Behind. And he realized. What had happened. Pascagoula. Stands for bread people. And yes you can hear them singing. When the wind is blowing just right in the Month of November

    1. WE HAD A SUMMER CAMP ON THE PASCAGOULA RIVER WHEN I WAS A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 1970’S. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE RIVER DOES SING. IF YOU LISITEN CLOSLY AND LOOK LATE IN THE AFTERNOON YOU CAN SEE A FAINT MISTY SHADOW OF PEOPLE WALKING HAND IN HAND INTO THE RIVER

    2. I walked from New Orleans to Panama city Florida. I came across this section on my way through the coast. Google maps took me through the woods one night and I was surrounded by shadowy figurers. 10-15 maybe I just kept my head down, hoody up and kept walking. I didn’t want to look at em directly. I know what I saw! I would be the first to tell you, I don’t believe in ghosts, ghouls, goblins or anything that goes bump in the night. I can also tell you that I know what trees, bushes and shrubs look like. I also know what a person 5″ 7 , 6ft, 4″ 5 looks like too!!! They were walking with me, next to me, on me!!!!!!!!! I got the fk outta there and I will never go back into the woods again

    3. The singing is real. It is loud and distinct. When we heard it. It lasted about 20 minutes. We were sitting in the boat in the pascagoula river. Around Merrill Mississippi. We could not believe we were hearing it. But it seemed to be rising from the water. A strong and definite song. An Indian beat with singing. It has been reported for hundreds of years and i am proud to say that we were fortunate to hear it for ourselves. There is no mistaking it. Its loud. I sure hope that in this day of technology. Someone will be able to record it. I have moved away. And so I don’t live there anymore. But the singing is most deafinately REAL

    4. My husband and I are paranormal investigator’s and have a YouTube channel called SOUTHERN CROSSOVER PARANORMAL and would love an opportunity to investigate this location. Who can I contact to get permission?

      • You don’t need permission to investigate the River. You can just go. You may want to get a boat and a guide. I’m a photographer and I would love to tag along.
