  1. My family (John Hall) bought the house from the Stigmatine fathers in 1970. We raised Clydesdale horses there, 4 daughters attended Waterville school and graduated from there, were married, and lived a regular life while there. It was our home for 10 years. It was then sold to John McCormick of Boston who never lived a day there. After a few years of being abandoned, it was in bad shape. The house was eventually sold to a family who put a lot of money into bringing the old place back to its former glory. They had a daughter who went to high school while there. As I understand it, the house if empty again but is in excellent shape.

THE HOUSE IS HAUNTED. But, by a friendly, loving entity who would never hurt you. We called him Henry.

      Julee,
My mom was friends with your parents and I used to love to go visit the house and see the horses! I would love to go see it again. It was so beautiful!

  2. Julee, my husband and I flew out from Las Vegas in November 1980 to look at the house, as it was for sale then and I believe we saw it advertised in the Robb Report!!! I was in awe, of the property and the horses! What scared me about the property was the furnace / heating… I have often wondered what would have happened to our lives had we decided to try living in a remote area, basically starting over, knowing no one… sometimes, I wish we had taken the chance! I STILL, to this day, think about this beautiful property… and those Clydesdales!!

My Father, James H. Norton, of Clayville, N.Y. did a lot of restoration on the Sanger Mansion while it was a monastery. He enjoyed working there and having wonderful lunches with the monks. An expert in carpentry, he reveled in old houses and the challenge of bringing them back to their original state.
