Robber's Cave - Van Dorn Park

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Robber's Cave - Van Dorn Park

Robber’s Cave, in southwest Lincoln near the intersection of 10th and High streets, was called Pahuk Bluff by the Pawnee Indians who came here to contact Tirawa, the god of all things. The cave was later a stop on the Underground Railroad and, in 1876, a hideout for Jesse James. Later, because of its proximity to the state penitentiary and a mental institution, reports tell of many convicts and patients who ended up here through tunnels from their respective buildings. Some died in the tunnels, and all of these stories lead to the rumors that the cave is haunted. Witnesses say you can here Native American chants and drums as well as screams, cries, laughter and voices. The cave has now been sealed, and a Subway restaurant is reported to sit atop the original entrance.

This is most definitely still there. I was just down there an hour ago, and it is amazing. I didn’t experience anything paranormal, but it’s huge. Countless rooms, huge hallways, twice as tall as I am (5’4) and thousands and thousands of carving dating back to 1920.

    2. Still there they covered the hole but some kids will probably dig it back up in a couple of weeks pretty crazy down there countless rooms candles grafitti I found a drum once pretty dope

    3. I am glad to see all of the enthusiasm towards Robbers Cave. It will be open soon. However, during construction if anyone is caught in the cave or trying to get in, you will be arrested. People have gotten into the cave and caused damages.

    4. Perhaps it is haunted. I took a recent tour, available now through Blue Blood Brewery, which is built above the cave and through which you now gain entrance. This photo I took has an odd streak that’s out of focus, plus some swirls of light (which could be a reflection of the ceiling lights, but that doesn’t explain the unfocused streak across the photo).
