It is said that the ghost who resides here likes to make off with nice jewelry. The owner himself has had a pair of sapphire cufflinks go missing, and to add to the mystery, his daughter lost a ring that later turned up in an old thesaurus.

  1. I certainly did! We stayed at this pretty little cottage a few years ago. We woke on Thanksgiving morning and my husband left to get coffee while I took a shower. As I was drying my hair, I heard what I thought were his footsteps outside of the bathroom door, walking down the hallway. The footsteps were deliberate and LOUD….very OBVIOUSLY someone walking. I assumed it was him, of course, and continued drying my hair. I heard them again. Then again. The floors in this place are heart of pine hardwoods. My husband had dress shoes on that morning so it definitely sounded like him walking. It would have been typical of him to open the door, hand me the coffee, and let me know he was back. I heard more footsteps. I turned off the hair dryer and opened the bathroom door to greet him. Silence. “Honey?”, I called out. Nothing. I turned the hair dryer back on, thinking he must have gone outside to the car. Once again, I heard the footsteps. “Hey!”, I called out. Nothing. I opened the bathroom door and continued to peer out the door, looking left and right as I quickly finished drying my hair and then left the bathroom to go sit in the bedroom.

About 10 or 15 minutes later, my husband came in-with coffee in hand and said he had not been there. I told him I heard the footsteps. They were seriously, and I cannot emphasize enough, VERY DEFINITELY footsteps. Walking. Walking, up and down the small hallway that led from the living area, past the bathroom door, past the kitchen to the bedroom and back. It was unexplainable but definitely not my imagination. Later that night, after a long Thanksgiving day, we settled back into our sweet little cottage for the evening, he watching television, and I browsing the books in the shelf. I noticed “Haunted Summerville” and picked it up and was surprised to see The Price House Cottage in the book. I began reading and came to a part where it said people reported hearing loud footsteps in the cottage and I JUMPED out my chair, mouth gaping open and told my husband what I had just read. Needless to say, going to sleep that night was not easy.

My husband and I stayed at Price House on our honeymoon in 2003. Upon retiring to bed one evening, we were disturbed by the sound of the bathtub faucet being turned on full blast. We got up to investigate and the sound stopped as we approached the bathroom. Tub was dry but we knew what we heard! The next day we visited Magnolia Plantation. When we returned, every single kitchen cabinet was opened wide. I also had a piece of lingerie go missing that I turned all the suitcases upside down and inside out, trying to find. The day we left, it turned up right on top of everything in my suitcase.

Despite all this, neither of us ever felt uneasy. We felt the spirits were just having some fun. It was a wonderful place to stay!
