Olivet College began in 1844 and is rumored to be home to several ghosts, including apparitions that pass through walls. The sound of unearthly music comes from Shipherds Hall, which baffles security guards. Objects move around on their own as well.

  1. I lived there in the early 1980s and it was haunted. Things disappeared. Items were “arranged”. I was even grabbed one night by something unseen!!

  2. I am a current student and i’ve only had two experiences which were both in the cemetery next to campus, one was a feeling of dread walking in after a thunderstorm and another was late at night I was waiting to go to a bonfire with some friends living in Dole the women’s dorm, (I live in the guys dorm Blair,) when I saw shadows in the cemetery from the parking lot. Some of my friends who are upperclassmen have reported things moving in Dole and Shipperd Halls, Shadow people in Blair, apparitions in Dole and Shipperd and a lot of the Greek houses on campus are haunted too, and the music conservatory is haunted at night by the person its named after, Margaret Upton, who plays piano in the band room. Dole and Shipperd are the most haunted places on campus. Dole because the haunted cemetery right next to it where I had my experiences used to be where Dole hall is now, and there are still graves under the hall that haven’t been moved due to being unmarked, also a girl committed suicide in one of the dorms there, Shipperd is haunted due to the previous Shipperd halls that used to occupy the site burning down and students dying in the flames, also it is haunted due to the original settlers of the city of Olivet and the college itself living in the area of Shipperd hall, and half the original settlers, including the man who the hall is named after and the founder of Olivet Reverend John Shipperd, died in a malaria outbreak due to the town being on a hill overlooking a swamp.

  3. I was there from 1984 to 88 and there were uncountable stories of paranormal activities. Freshman & Sophomore years I lived in the women’s dorm; Dole Hall which had stories based in the basement and the third floor. On the third floor of Dole, a close friend of mine saw a note that was taped onto an inhabitant’s door, start suddenly flapping like crazy, when there was no breeze coming from anywhere. Another huge incident was a room where 3 of my friends lived. I have the newspaper clipping of that incident that I would like to include.

  4. i am a current student of olivet (2022) and in the time i’ve been there, i wouldn’t say shiperd hall is haunted so much as dole or upton conservatory.

dole just has an eerie feeling, and it’s one of the older buildings. ive never lived there, but the times ive been there, i feel a bit on edge if im alone.

i play piano in the conservatory a lot, and there’s also an eerie feeling there. sometimes i hear thumps or taps down the hall from the practice room im in , and there’s no one there when i check.
