Old Courthouse Theatre, built in 1922, was originally a Baptist church and is rumored to be haunted. One of the ghosts has been nicknamed The Deacon, an apparition of a man in a dark suit who doesn’t care for musicals. Footsteps, moving objects, lights going on and off and moving spotlights are attributed to this ghost.
The sounds of singing and of jingling keys are among the other strange things reported here.

  1. I’m in a play at the Old Courthouse, and we just use overhead fluorescent lights and a few spotlights, and all the cast and crew stay on the ground during rehearsals and many of the lights flicker on and off, or dim unexpectedly.

    • I was In a show last year, All the lights would flicker and the spot lights would move around. I saw a man in my dressing room when I had to change but nobody was in the room with me at all. I kept hearing keys, but I thought that was the stage manager, just to find out nobody was in the building with me at the time to where I was just leaving. During one of our shows, Someone reported seeing someone walk around in the back of the stage, But they couldn’t make out who or what it was. But all the cast and crew where out on stage, taking a bow.

  2. I have had doors open and shut while performing, footsteps in the balcony, while I was alone on stage. While running a spot light for a show or inexplicably fell. I have done many shows there and have felt the cold spots. I never go in there, as an actor or patron, without saying hello to Deacon.

  3. I was in a play there a few years back. My neighbor would drive me to and from there. She was in the play as well. She bought a Kit-Kat and left it in the dressing room. She went back to get it but it was gone. She figured someone had mistaken it for hers and it wasn’t a big deal. Next day, we walked through the prop area, and we didn’t see anything. We went and did whatever we were doing then walked back through. The KIt-Kat was in the small prop tree. If it was there the first time we walked through, we would have seen it, as a it-Kat wrapper is a bright orange color. We were the only ones in the building.
