This long forgotten and overgrown cemetery is now on land belonging to the Mount Dora Country Club. Locals claim they’ve heard the cries of a woman around here, and seen a ghostly green light floating around the area. The graves here are not taken care of and only a few markers remain.

This appears to be an African American cemetery from the turn of the century. There are numerous depressions in the ground, but only one marker is visible right now. It’s poured concrete with imprinted lettering. It’s difficult to read due to growth on the stone, but it reads: “Anna Chatman
Wife of Will Chatman
Died June 4, 1941 Mount Dora Fla
Born Russellvill-SC” I initially thought due to the surface growth, it was “kussellvill”, but I can’t find any mention of that town existing. There is a “Russellville” South Carolina. The “e” appears to have been dropped for space/symmetry. There may be more markers burried under the topsoil, but most likley these were lower income burials, and markers were made of wood. The people here were laborers in the groves, or maybe transitory migrant workers. It’s difficult to determine how many there were. Some may have been paved over inadvertently.
