Oatlands Plantation

Oatlands Plantation was once a 3,500-acre wheat and wool producer with over seven dozen slaves. Now a historic site of only 260 acres, the 1804 manor house museum is rumored to be home to a few spirits. Doors are said to randomly lock on their own, and witnesses and paranormalists have described footsteps, voices, and an unexplained scent of roses upstairs.

  1. I spent 3 summers at this plantation and can confirm that it is absolutely 100% haunted. This place started my fascination with the paranormal. I had many an experience there!

  2. My sister and I visited a couple of years ago. She had two small children with her and while we were on the tour, she took them to the stairwell to wait. From there, they heard what sounded like furniture being moved upstairs. It was only when the tour was allowed to go upstairs a few minutes later that she realized there had been no one up there.

My parents use to rent one of the houses on the property at Oatlands. All I can remember it was the house with the stairs that lead from the upstairs bedrooms and ended up in the kitchen. My parents use to say it was used for the kitchen help to bring food to the other occupants of the house. My Dad was a caretaker there, and dealt with the lawn work, and rose bushes. My parents use to say there was stories being told about the Oatlands plantation. I remember visiting there when I was a kid, but haven’t been back in years. I know at one time the Kennedy family would visit the plantation for the fox hunts. And the one time some kids were ruining the rose bushes, and my dad yelled at them, not knowing at the time it was John and Caroline Kennedy. Rose Kennedy found out and she told my Dad, if they keep it up, just use a switch on their butts. I want to take a trip back to visit and see the house my parents lived in.
