Although it is best known for the three hundred year old oaks that line the walkway leading to the house, Oak Alley is also known for its ghosts. Numerous apparitions of a woman have been reported throughout the house, as well as sightings of a woman riding a horse through the grounds. A man has also been spotted throughout the house as well.

    1. I was on a tour of this plantation in, I believe 2008. It was late autumn–given my awful northern climate-conditioning, I cannot visit La any time between mid-April through mid-October. The tour guide led us into the upper back bedroom, and although I typically have allergies enough to prevent me from smelling anything but the strongest of scents–I smelled roses. Not rose perfume–I can tell the difference, the rare times my nose works at all. ROSES. The smell wasn’t overpowering, but it was definite. I’m a bit shy, so I wasn’t going to ask anyone else if they smelled it. I thought for sure that there was perhaps something out the window? There *was* a rose garden there, but the leaves were turning, and all the petals had dropped from the blooms. I lingered a bit longer, just–confused. The last one of the tour group out of the door, I noted–no. No bouquets, nothing I could note that would explain that most definite real rose smell–
