McLoughlin House

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  McLoughlin House

City founder Dr. John McLoughlin’s spirit is said to linger in his former home. Witnesses say late at night their shoulders have been touched or a shadowy figure has appeared going down the hall. Footsteps and the smell of tobacco also have been reported, and beds are found to look like someone has been sleeping in them. The apparition of a woman in an old-fashioned dress has been seen at the bottom of the staircase, believed to be John’s wife Marguerite.

  1. When I was younger, we took a class trip here. My mom had gotten me a disposable camera to take pictures with. I took a picture of the portrait and felt something touch my shoulders. Later, when I got the photos developed, there was the same mans face, Mcloughlin, in the picture. But there was no reflection, he was standing in front of me, but appeared to be sideways.
