Maple Street Bakery

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Maple Street Bakery

Maple Street Bakery is housed in a building that’s over 100 years old and has been a convalescent home, a private house, an art gallery and an insurance office. And, it’s said to be haunted, as evidenced by footsteps on the porch, electrical anomalies, doors that open or close by themselves and rocking chairs the rock by themselves. Witnesses also say doors lock themselves, pictures fly off walls, covers blow off a fireplace and things move around in the night.

  1. Of course it’s going to be haunted! It’s across the street from the Abita middle school. The place was literally built on top of a Native American burial ground.

  2. We’ve investigated the site several times before it was a bakery. It is quite haunted. Prior it to being a bakery it was an art gallery, Allstate office and in years past it was a TB clinic.
Behind the property was the Abita Springs hanging tree as city hall is nearby. Across the street is the site of a Choctaw Indian execution ground. So you have a trifecta of hauntings….TB clinic, Indian executions and a hanging tree.
The staff of the Allstate office experienced paranormal activity all the time. The art gallery owner had no idea of the haunted reputation but her nude art was tossed off the walls.

  3. We live in the house, next to the bakery. our 1st night here, not knowing the history, my 4 year old hear a girl crying outside the window……

  4. My sister, Barbara Ame’ Henderson Branson had a Coffeehouse there as well. The Evening Star. That was the beginning of the Evening Star String Band. I did all the cooking of pies, cakes, muffins, etc. She lived In the house right next to it. They are both definitely haunted. We experienced all the the paranormal things, too, in both houses. We had local artist hang their work, poetry night, acoustic music night, and book club meetings.
