An 1870 robbery led to the haunting of this place. Manuel Sato was cooking breakfast at his campsite when he was fatally knifed in a sneak attack. The robber recently had also robbed a bank, and when soldiers came to search for the loot, they found Sato’s spirit leading a string of ghostly pack mules.

  1. Loon Creek is located northeast of Stanley, in the Salmon River mountains about 4 and a half hour drive from Boise. Several gold mining camps were located in this area. This is where the alleged murder took place. Note that there is no place called “Loon Creek” anywhere close to Boise.
