Leflur / Lefler House

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Leflur / Lefler House

Reports may differ as to spell the name of the locally famous haunted house, but its merit as a haunted site is hard to argue. Several murders have taken place on the premises. Phenomena reported include a red glow seen upstairs, a very cold attic (even in the heat of summer), and a washing machine that ran by itself. The owner has seen a ghostly lady in a blue dress and witnessed a marble being thrown across the residence. There are said to be 7 ghosts here. The place was a streetcar stop in the early 1900s, and it is now a private residence.

  1. My brother-in-law grew up in this house, he and my sister and their family lived here the first time I entered the house. My first experience with the entities (unbeknownst to me that it was haunted) happened when I stopped to see my newborn niece in 1981. I had stopped and picked up some chicken prior to arriving at the home, I asked my sister if she had paper plates. She said “Yes, they’re in the upper left hand corner of the kitchen cabinets”. I went to this corner and before I could even grab the paper plates I felt a cold space surround me, the hair on my arms stood up. I grabbed the paper plates and couldn’t get away fast enough. I returned to the family room but didn’t say a thing about my experience. I later went into the restroom on the first floor and, as soon as I closed the door, felt the coldness again along with extreme closeness. I left as soon as I could. At that time I told my sister she had a “weird” house and told her of the locations where I felt uncomfortable. She then showed me the article that had been in the Sioux City paper earlier, in the article both places were identified as “cold spots.” After reading that article I became a full believer in haunted houses.

  2. I lived two houses down from this house (3511)! I was good friends with the twins Willy and Wally (1950’s to60’s) I spent many nights there. Although I do not recall the Washing machine, I did see the demon and a few other weird things!

  3. Spent the night there in late 1977 when I was 14. My friend Robbie Leflers grandma lived there and we used the opportunity to sneak out. I knew of the stories at the time but did not experience anything myself. I will tell you that I was scared having to get up to use the bathroom. Not saying stuff isn’t true, just that I didn’t experience anything myself

  4. Lived next door to the house in1975 and was friends with Robbie Lefler. There was an incident that year we’re a boy was killed in the driveway during a fight with one of the girls ex boy friends. Spent the night there a couple times but never saw anything. Robbie told me a story about a locked room behind the basement furnace. He said a family had been murdered there in the past and no one goes in there. We went down once to see it and there was door locked with a paddle lock. We we’re both creeped out and got out of there. I remember hearing the stories that the whole family saw a marble fly across the room and that Robbie’s grandfather had seen the ghost of a women.
