Kemper Hall

You are here Home  > Historical Buildings >  Kemper Hall

Once known as Durkee Mansion, the 1861 Kemper Hall was home to early settler and Senator Charles Durkee. After being donated to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Durkee Mansion was turned into a girls’ boarding school and now operates as a recreation center. Today, folks say the building is haunted by ghostly nuns who have been seen looking out of the windows.

  1. So, I have a lot to say about Kemper. I used to live just down the street from there so i would visit a lot. Also, I worked in the Halloween haunted house on year. I always get an uneasy feeling when I visit and occasionally I will see a nun-like figure in the window like everyone says but one day i was sitting down in a chair in one of the old classrooms when I felt a hand placed on my shoulder. I was really freaked out so i went to a different room. I heard the footsteps following me until I went outside. When i was working there I would see people in the windows when noone was in the building and hear voices and movement. Kemper truely is haunted.

  2. It is definitely haunted! I went to school there and witnessed many a spirit! The nun’s haunting Kemper are many! We saw them in the classrooms chapel and our room! It was a dark spooky place to be….
