Reportedly haunted by a girl who committed suicide. Considering every university has the rumor of the girl who hanged herself, it should probably be placed in the “dubious” file.

  1. So I have not been able to confirm the story about the “girl hanging herself” but I have investigated this building before. I went two nights in a row to the women’s locker room area and both nights got several EVPs of a male and female on both nights. I’m not saying it’s haunted, you have to decide that for yourself, just saying what I have found there.

  2. Maybe not haunted by a specific force or entity, but Johnson gym is a very liminal space, and it’s easy to get lost going down a straight path. I’ve heard there’s a climbing wall in there, but iceberg wandered through the whole place and have yet to find it. The paths sometimes seem to change when you turn around.
Haunted? Maybe not. Cursed? Most definitely.

  3. I had an interesting experience this afternoon at the Olympic Pool in Johnson Gym: I was swimming laps and (nearly) every time I approached the wall to do a flip-turn I breathed to the side and saw someone sitting on the pool deck in the next lane over… but only out of the corner of my eye. At first I thought it might be someone sitting and talking to the lifeguard (there is a lifeguard stand nearby), but when I would finish the set there was no one sitting where I thought I had seen someone earlier in the same set. This happened throughout the workout.

Afterwards I asked the lifeguards (partly to check my eyesight and sanity) if anyone had been sitting on the deck by the lifeguard chair in the past hour… they said no one had been there during my workout. They told me a couple stories from other lifeguards but none of the guards on duty today had experiences of their own. Certainly worth exploring more.
