Deborah Frethem writes of this house in her book, “Haunted Tampa: Spirits of the Bay.” According to Frethem, this building dates back to 1901 and was a boardinghouse once used by a number of African American greats during the days of segregation, like Ray Charles, Count Basie and even Martin Luther King Jr. She says there have been reports of “faces composed of mist” appearing in the windows of the house.

COMPLETELY haunted. Went here to take some photographs and as soon as I turned onto the street felt immediately sick and uneasy without even knowing I was near the house. As I got out I felt something wanting me to leave. As I was shooting there was knocking coming from the window in front of me and my friend told me we had to leave now because he saw a strange looking face that wasn’t a human face. I felt sick a while after that too. I slept with the light on for a few days!
