The granddaughter of original builder General Wade Hampton is thought to haunt the place, having appeared to restoration workers in 2003 wearing a blue dress. She walked down the staircase and disappeared. She also is known to follow tour groups through the house. The identity of the ghost is not certain; some feel she may be the 7-year-old daughter of a later owner, Colonel William P. Miles.

  1. My daughter had a field trip to both the Houmas House and the Myrtles about two weeks ago. Both my husband and daughter went on this trip. When they made it home he was telling me that we will go back and maybe stay the night if possible. They didn’t like the myrtles as much as the Houmas house as they got to go in more room and see a lot more stuff. As I was going through the pics they took there was a lot of orbes in a few of the rooms as well as a face I found in one of the windows. We will be back to the Houmas house very soon.

  2. I tried taking a photo of the piano and couldn’t get a clear picture. Later when I was looking through them, I saw the ghastly shadowy image of something wearing blue with dark hair through the doorway sitting at the dining room table.

  3. My husband and I visited last week on Thursday I think. Suezanne with blond hair and brown eyes was our guide., she told us of the house being haunted. I told her I had seen some of the same things in our own home. I saw or felt nothing in the house but on the way out we stopped in the gift shop and watched a movie. I sat on a chair and my husband Charles stood near by about two feet away. I had my right arm resting on the arm of the chair from my wrist to the elbow. All of a sudden my arm flew off of the chair and I fell to the right. I had not moved my arm but something had. I guess it was going to take its last opportunity to do something. If you want to ask any more questions of me you can reach me at 713-254-7456 Just thought I would let you know. Sue Marion
