Hotel DeFuniak

This hauntings at this 1920’s era bed and breakfast hotel are mainly confined to an upstairs suite, so if you’re looking for a paranormal experience in this old building, look no further than Room #008. Known as the ‘Aviary Room’, housekeeping staff and guests have reported a ghostly pair of young children, and a lamp that moves around the room of its own accord.

  1. My boyfriend at the time and I stayed here one night back in 2012. I hadn’t known anything about the possibility of it being haunted at the time, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. It did have an eery feeling but I chalked that up to the heritage the place holds. The train did wake me once, that’s all. It was a great stay though, and the owners were fantastic! Except they never mailed me my sleep pants I forgot….

My husband and I stayed in room 8 on Valentines Day 2019. We awoke around dawn to what sounded like children playing a game of jax on the floor at the foot of our bed. It continued for several minutes and both of us fell back asleep for awhile. Neither of us felt
any malevolent intentions. We weren’t alarmed in any way. I would love to know more about them and how they came to be in that room. I wish I could find something in the history of Hotel Defuniak.

  3. Stayed in room 8 Christmas 2018. Toilet tissue disappeared, picture fell off wall, unplugged alarm clock alarmed twice. At 5:30am we were awoken by foot steps at the end of the bed. Convinced that its haunted.
Loved the rest of the hotel. Very charming.

  4. My husband and I stayed at the hotel in 2019 in room 8. I was awakened by 2 girls jumping on the end of the bed at 330am. I woke him up to see them but they disappeared. It was fun. We will stay in room 8 again.
