You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Hitchhiker of Highway 365

Why does a female hitchhiker appear here on stormy nights, asking passersby to drive her home? Legend has it that when the driver arrives at the address she gives, she simply disappears. When the driver goes to the door to ask about the missing girl, the resident will tell them it happens frequently, as their daughter was killed in a car accident.

  1. I have witnessed this happen before. I was driving on this highway with my mother one evening and it was raining really bad. I was talking to my mom when I looked out of the window and saw a woman standing in the rain. I told my mom to pull over and help her. We picked her up and took her home, but when I got out to open the door, she was gone. We went back and saw no one else. We drove back to the house and the mother of the woman ( I presume) told us about her daughter being dead.

  2. this story has been told since my grandmothers time (at least 80 years) the one thing that stands out to me is everyone says they take this “ghost” to her mothers house who tells them her daughter is dead. the mother must be at least 100 years old or older.
I’m not saying there isn’t something to the legend, I’m just saying that people should stop repeating the same story generation after generation. it’s so not believable.

  3. I had a friend tell me that back in the late 1970s he was driving along this hwy and it was storming bad. He saw a girl hitchhiking and stopped to give her a ride. He said it was raining so hard you could barely see the road. He drove her about ten miles and came to a gas station and she asked to be let out. She said she would call her parents to come pick her up. My friend said there was two or three in the gas station when he came to a stop. The young girl got out, turned around and thanked him and he drove on down the road. After a couple of miles he decided to turn around and go back because the storm was getting worse and he wasn’t sure the young girl would be able to reach her parents.
When my friend drove back to the station he did not see the girl anywhere so he went inside to ask if she was able to get a ride home. He asked the men in the station what happened to the girl he dropped off earlier. They both looked at him strangely and he repeated the question. After a few moments of silence the older of the men looked at my friend and said, “Sir, I’m not sure what you are talking about but about 15 minutes ago you pulled up and stopped right in front of our door. We thought you were going to come inside but you sat in your car and it seemed you were talking to someone. You say there for a little while then drove off but sir, you were the only one in the car when you stopped and you were the only one in your car when you left. There was no girl or anyone with you”.
As I said this happened in the late 1970s. My friend was not known to lie or tell y’all tales and to his dieing day he swore this was a true happening.
