Hickory Valley Methodist Church

You are here Home  > Miscellaneous >  Hickory Valley Methodist Church

The church is a small, wooden building located near the cemetery across the road. If you approach the church at night, you can hear people singing hymns, but there is no one around. Sometimes the apparitions of young children can also be seen at the Hickory Valley Methodist Church.

  1. Being relatively local, I have been by the church, but I have never actually been to Hickory Valley Methodist Church. I have however, been to the cemetery across the road. The lane from the highway to the cemetery is inviting with overhanging tree limbs along the way. I am not a paranormal investigator by any stretch of the imagination, but I have no doubt that it is haunted. My husband and I do a lot of historical research. When our daughter was little we would take her with us to cemeteries and she would play and run about in the cemetery while we researched . But this cemetery was different. She was about 5 years old and we were unable to research at all because as soon as we got out of the car, she started to cry and cling to us saying “I don’t like it!” While begging to leave. After a few minutes we left because this was so out of character for her and we decided to take notice as we had heard that small children are more sensitive to paranormal activity. We made a second trip to the cemetery many years later when she was a teenager. This time it was dark and our nephew was with us. Once again our daughter was very frightened and would not leave the car so I stayed with her while the guys went walking around in the cemetery. They reported that they had seen several orbs and odd lights in the trees. They also said that they heard footsteps behind them and voices in the darkness. That has been several years and I have no desire to return because it is s very scary place.

  2. I love on this road.
The Hickory Valley Church was at the end of Arrowhead Ln, and Hwy 167 North.
We have a farm on Arrowhead Ln. about 6 years ago, we finally built our dream home out here.
Shortly after, the hwy dept widened the highway, they tore down the church. 🙁
I can say, I have travelled this road now for 23 years.
It was creepy. We would stop there on several occasions to lead friends or family to the farm if they didn’t know how to eat there.
I could not sit out there very long in the dark.
One strange thing I noticed also, was that the wind was ALWAYS blowing around that church, always. It could be humid and still as a rock, and the leaves would be blowing.
It was also set on fire before torn down.
When it burned, it was insane.
It didn’t destroy things that we would have all expected to get destroyed!
I can also say I DID hear the sounds they claim to hear of singing, on two occasions.
It was faint and I had to force myself to believe it wasn’t true lol.

I do want to add, if you travel further down Arrowhead Ln, there is a very small cemetery.
When we first got the property one of the oldest Methodist churches in bthe state, sat in this cemetery.
It was no bigger than my bedroom.
It was extremely creepy and we often thought we saw things there as we would drive by.
    That church, was also burned…
Luckily the United Methodist museum had already removed the pulpit, and bell from the building. It now sits in the museum.
We purchased the property the cemetery sits on, last year.
One day our son looked down and said “wow, a coin!”
    I said “that’s a button…”
We looked it up and it was a button from a generals dress blues, WWI.
So I can only assume it was from years back and someone walking to church and losing a button.
I’m going to copy and paste a link about “Gray”, which also covers Hickory Valley and the Barren Township we are in.
If you do visit Gray’s Cemetery, please be respectful.
There is an older couple who buried their young daughter there about 10 years ago.
They take care of it, and visit quite often to sit.
It sits on part of our property and we own the vacant field that leads up to the cemetery on the left, and quite a bit behind it.
There is also, what we think, is a cave on part of our property.
We have a year round spring fed creek, as well. I wouldn’t walk it at night for a million dollars.
There are two Native American graves right on the side of the creek on our property.
It is covered in thorn bushes that are 100% impassible.
We never tried very hard. We realized maybe they were there for a reason and we should just respect and stay out of there.

I can say without a doubt we have had more strange things happen out here than anywhere I have ever been in my life.
That includes the Crescent in Eureka.
I hate that the church is gone, but I feel the same creepy feelings I felt when they were both there!
I love this site. Thanks for providing such amazing info.
Since our boys are now seniors, I’m thinking about making them a “haunted map” for them to just go out on Halloween and play!
Here is the link to grays cemetery on our property.
There is a lot of info online about the Hickory Valley Methodist Church!
    Happy Haunting 😉
