The 1912 El Centro Espanol building is home to some strange occurrences. Folks say that the sound of crying babies can be heard in the building when there are no babies around. Also, when candles are blown out, they sometimes re-ignite.

Visited recently and chatted with two waiters in the steak house on the main floor, who told me that several of the staff had felt or seen a presence. I went up to the second level to use the restroom. While inside, I distinctly heard a baby crying. When I came out there was no one around. At the time I had not heard the story of hearing a baby crying in the building.

    • was the baby sound inside the restaurant, or behind, in the middle of the building? trying to clarify. maybe there’s a second level in the chop house. you mean the restrooms across the hall from the former ball room?
